Clarinetist Sara Aratake was born in Japan and grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She is currently in the second year of the Master of Music program at the Cleveland Institute of Music studying with Frank Cohen, the former principal clarinetist of the Cleveland Orchestra. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College in 2015, where she studied with Charles Neidich. She has also studied with Donald Oehler in North Carolina.
Sara has performed as a soloist with the Queens College Orchestra in 2014 as a winner of the ACSM Concerto Competition, as well as the North Carolina Symphony as a winner of the 2012 Kathleen Price and Joseph Bryan Youth Concerto Competition. She has been heard on NPR’s radio program, From the Top, during their broadcast from Alabama. This past summer, Sara had the opportunity to participate in the Sarasota Music Festival and the Orford Music Festival orchestra, where they toured Korea and performed the closing concert for the Busan Maru International Festival at the Busan Cultural Center.
